How is GazeTV different?

Understanding what our aim is and why we think it’s important.

This week we thought we’d circle back to the philosophical side for a while, to discuss (outside of functionality) how GazeTV is different. If you’ve read our GazeTV presentation file off our website, then you understand the functional differences -

  1. Automated Content Synchronization
  2. A blockchain backend to track views and engagement and
  3. Tokenized rewards mechanism via token distribution model
  4. Better data for creators
  5. A Culture of Donate/Support

All those things are simple.

Today we thought we’d talk more about the thinking BEHIND those functional changes, and what the goal is.

The goal is simple — How could our interactions with social media just be…, well… BETTER.

I’ve talked in depth before about how investors in tech companies value MAU above all else — HERE. The issue with MAU for these investors is that it always has to be going UP. This creates a zero sum game where that means that people are on your platform, or like many of my friends recently and WhatsApp, they are now OFF. If you want to know more about that, you can read about it HERE.

So, tech companies use a metric that means people are either addicted, or they decide to leave. There doesn’t seem to be much middle ground.

Why is that?

Well, a lot of it (We think) has to do with where the incentivization sits. Mostly it sits with the companies, occasionally it sits with a few very successful Influencers and Channels, and the rest of the Influencer folk just circle around, some “Links To Buy” in their Bios. The audience just kinda watches this, like a slow motion car crash. The attention goes one way, the rewards go the other.

SOME EXAMPLES OF PEOPLE SHILLING

What if it was different?

What if those “Link to BUY” folk could see their audience getting rewarded, and audiences knew that by engaging with good content they love, they could drive value to the creators they like?

What if we could create vibrant online communities?

We feel pretty strongly about this — Why else would we build this? We think that people desire to be part of communities, whether knitting, cooking, looking at food, working out, gaming — people like to know what other people who have the same interests are doing, making and creating.

So, how do we optimize a platform for that?

That was where the thinking behind Gaze began, everything else came after.
